Last night was the sixth season premiere of The Office, and in honor of that, I'm listing some of my favorite quotes. This was almost an impossible task because there are fabulous quotes in pretty much every episode, but here are some that are memorable to me. "That's what she said" does not make the list because, well, it's obvious. :)
1. Michael Scott: "Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject, so you know you are getting the best possible information." I actually used this quote in a handout I gave to my students about the pitfalls of using Wikipedia as a source.
2. Andy Bernard: “I am a great interviewee. Why? Because I have something no one else has. My brain. Which I use to my advantage, when advantageous.”
3. Michael: “Guess what? I have flaws. What are they? Oh I don't know... I sing in the shower. Sometimes I spend too much time volunteering. Occasionally I'll hit somebody with my car. So sue me. No, don't sue me... that's the opposite of the point I'm trying to make.”
4. Dwight Schrute: “When my mother was pregnant with me, they did an ultrasound and found she was having twins. When they did another ultrasound a few weeks later, they discovered, that I had resorbed the other fetus. Do I regret this? No. I believe his tissue has made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown man and a little baby.”
5. This is an exchange between Jim and Dwight, possibly one of the best ever:
Dwight: Welcome to the Hotel Hell. Check in time now. Check out time is never.
Jim: Does my room have cable?
Dwight: No, and the sheets are made of fire!
Jim: Can I change rooms?
Dwight: No, we're all booked up. Hell convention in town!
Jim: Can I have a late check out?
[pauses]
Dwight: I'll have to talk to the manager.
Jim: You're not the manager...even in your own fantasy?
Dwight: I'm the owner....co-owner. With Satan!
Jim: Okay, just so I understand it...in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.
Dwight: But I haven't told you my salary.
Jim: Go.
Dwight: Eighty thousand dollars a year!
Honorable mentions:
Dwight: “Once I’m officially regional manager, my first order of business will be to demote Jim Halpert. So I will need a new number two. My ideal choice? Jack Bauer. But he is unavailable. Fictional. And overqualified.”
Michael: “I love inside jokes. I'd like to be a part of one some day.”

Friday Five: Gilmore Girls Quotes
For this week's Friday Five, I've chosen five quotes from my favorite TV show of all time, Gilmore Girls. There are a lot of quotes to choose from, but I picked ones that really stuck out to me. Enjoy!
1. Spoken by Paris about a student she's tutoring: "She's got a C average which means she's either lazy or stupid. I can work with either. Frankly sometimes stupid is easier. I can scare the stupid out of you, but the lazy runs deep."
2. Lorelai: Huh. You know what I just realized? Oy is the funniest word in the entire world. I mean, think about it. You never hear the word oy and not smile. Impossible. Funny, funny word. Poodle is another funny word.
Emily: Please drink your drink, Lorelai.
Lorelai: In fact, if you put oy and poodle together in the same sentence, you’d have a great new catch phrase, you know? Like, “Oy with the poodles already.” So from now on, when the perfect circumstances arise, we will use our favorite new catch phrase.
Rory: Oy with the poodles already!
Lorelai: I’m telling you, it’s knocking “Whatcha talking ’bout, Willis?” right out of first place.
3. Paris: "I can't help it. Any way I look at it, I'm right."
4. Sookie: I am so sad...and mad. I'm smad.
5. Jess: "Great, then we can hold hands and skip afterwards."
Honorable mentions
Paris: "I don't see anyone here who shouldn't be sterilized immediately."
Lorelai: "Copper boom!"
Luke: Rory's not here yet.
Lorelai: Then you'll have to entertain me until she arrives. Okay Burger boy, dance.
Luke: Will you marry me?
[Lorelai is taken aback]
Luke: Just looking for something to shut you up.
Logan: Rory, you're special.
Rory: Like "stop-eating-the-paste" special?
Lorelai: "The plural of cul-de-sac is culs-de-sac? That doesn't even sound like English."
Rory: "That's because it's French."
Okay, guess I should have just done a top 10.
If you're a fan of Gilmore Girls, what are your favorite quotes? If you're not a fan, I am sad for you, but feel free to share any other memorable quotes. :)

Friday Five: Favorite TV Shows
This list is hardly exhaustive, but it does include shows that I love and could watch episodes of over and over again.
1. Gilmore Girls. If you know me at all, you know that I love this show. I loved it from the very first episode and continued to watch it faithfully until the end (even though the quality of the storylines diminished over time). There isn't a show with wittier dialogue and more intriguing characters, in my opinion.
Favorite episodes: The Pilot; The Deer Hunters (when Rory hits a deer on her way to take an English test and then totally flips out in class because Mr. Medina won't let her take it); Love, Daisies and Troubadors (when Max proposes to Lorelai and Rory and Dean make up and have an amazing kiss in front of Chilton); Luke Can See Her Face (when Luke realizes he's in love with Lorelai); Raincoats and Recipes (when Luke and Lorelai kiss for the first time); Written in the Stars (Luke and Lorelai's first date); You Jump, I Jump, Jack (when Logan introduces Rory to the Life and Death Brigade); the entire second and third seasons :)
2. Boy Meets World. I have seen every episode of this show as well, and I literally grew up watching it. It will always be close to me heart, even though it too lost quality as it progressed. (And it made me crazy that the character of Eric went from being this happy-go-lucky heartthrob to a complete goober.)
Favorite episodes: when Cory is cast as Hamlet in the school play and then quits; when Cory and Topanga make up while at SeaWorld; when Cory and Shaun lead the class to strike after reading The Grapes of Wrath; when Shaun finds a girl's purse and falls in love with her because of the contents, and he realizes it's his friend Angela.
3. The Cosby Show. Classic comedy. I love it.
Favorite episodes: when Rudy's fish dies (Vanessa: "Your fish has decreased."); when Theo wants to move out and Cliff uses Monopoly money to demonstrate how he will barely be able to survive; when the whole family lip syncs to the Ray Charles song "The Night Time is the Right Time" (and Rudy sings "Babyyyy, Babyyyy, Oh Baby Baby!" Watch it here); when Denise tries to make Theo a knockoff designer shirt.
4. The Office. So many quotable lines and funny scenarios. And of course, Jim and Pam! Love it.
Favorite episodes: Diversity Day (when Michael runs his own diversity training course); The Injury (when Michael burns his foot on his George Foreman); Casino Night (Jim and Pam kiss); Gay Witch Hunt (Oscar is outed by Michael); Fun Run (Michael hits Meredith with his car).
5. LOST. I am often completely blown away by what happens on this show. It has some of the best characters on television.
Favorite episodes: Confidence Man (when we first learn about Sawyer's con man past); What Kate Did (when we see what Kate did that made her a fugitive); Live Together Die Alone (when the Losties decide to wage war against the Others and then some are taken hostage); One of the Them (when we first meet Ben, who was then calling himself Henry Gale); Dave (when Hurley and Libby bond); Greatest Hits (when Charlie dies trying to save the others); The Constant (when we learn more about Desmond's past and his relationship with Penny)

American Idol: Top 7 (Again)
Since the judges saved Matt last week, we still had 7 contenders for this week's disco theme. No one was truly terrible, but no one was all that exciting, either, with the exception of my man, Kris Allen. He rocked "She Works Hard for the Money" and made it sound amazing (it didn't sound much like disco, but that's not really a bad thing in my opinion). I really hope he makes it to the finals, since he's basically the only remaining contestant I care about.
Click the video below to hear his performance, complete with a picture of that adorable and yet bizarre facial contortion he makes when hitting high notes.
Tonight 2 Idols will leave us for good. My predictions? Lil and Anoop.

Gilmore Girls Review
EDIT: I just bought The Little Mermaid! I'm sooo excited. I don't know how many years it's been since I last saw it, but I still know the words to almost all the songs. And why is it almost 80 degrees in October? It's fall! I want to wear sweaters, dang it!
Highs:
Logan and Rory interactions were super cute in this episode. Logan gave Rory a rocket, and at first Rory was completely perplexed as to what it meant, but then she remembered the Twilight Zone episode they watched on their first date. I don't really remember all the details about the episode, but Rory decides the rocket symbolizes true love. Rory wants to go to London for the summer to be with Logan, but when she calls him he tells her he bought her a ticket for Christmas. This crushes Rory, but she doesn't say anything, so that serves her right.
Sookie and Michel arm wrestled, and of course Sookie whipped Michel's butt. It was very cute.
Lorelai and Rory attempted sports as a way to get their minds off their respective boy troubles, and Lorelai gives herself a black eye. Their "no talking" rule lasts about two seconds, and the scene with them in the racquetball court is precious. It seemed like the Rory and Lorelai of seasons gone by.
Lows:
Luke and Lorelai are over. Waaaa. Although it pains me to admit it, they need to be broken up so they can both do a little growing and maturing. They also need to learn how to communicate! Lorelai gave this very heartfelt and moving explanation to Sookie about why she couldn't wait for Luke anymore, and if she had just told LUKE that, it could have saved a lot of heartache.
Taylor decides to install a red-light camera in Stars Hollow, and Kirk tests it out in Taylor's Thunderbird, which he proceeds to crash into the front of Luke's Diner. I was not a fan of this at all. It was over the top and completely absurd, and Taylor gets on my last nerve.
Luke comes to Lorelai's house at the end of the episode, having realized the error of his ways, and says he's ready to elope now. Too little, too late, Luke. Lorelai, perhaps in order to shut him up (as he talked more in this scene than in any other), tells him she slept with Christopher. This stunning blow does indeed shut him up, and Luke turns around and leaves, and fade to credits. Scott Patterson did an excellent job in this scene, and it was really heartbreaking.
I'm concerned about the direction of this season. Last season was my least favorite, and I would love it if this one were a huge improvement, but I just don't know. I suppose time will tell. Tonight's episode should be interesting at least.

Yippie!
Gilmore Girls premiere is TONIGHT! And what makes it even more exciting than usual is that Stephen is now caught up on the entire series, so he can share my greatest TV love with me! He really is the best fiancé ever. I just hope the premiere isn't disappointing. I'm sure it's going to be a little sad, but as long as it's good, I can handle some sadness.
In other news, my mom is meeting with some photographers this week, so let's hope I will soon have a wedding photographer! That's the last major detail I need to take care of, and the sooner it's done, the better I will feel about it. I think it will actually hit me that I'm getting married when my wedding dress comes in (which will be several more weeks, I believe). I can't wait!

Today's School Lesson
Today in my medieval readings course I learned that if you want to sell a house quickly, you should bury St. Joseph upside down in your front yard. Who knew that he was the patron saint of real estate? I'm so glad I'm getting my master's so I can learn this incredibly valuable information. (In case you're wondering, this lesson had nothing whatsoever to do with the reading.)
EDIT: Gilmore Girls gossip below! Do NOT read if you don't want to know about events that take place in the season premiere (which is NEXT Tuesday, yay!)!!!
The following is from my favorite TV scooper, Michael Ausiello, as found in his TV Guide column, Ask Ausiello:
Question: At the risk of angering the Gilmore Girls masses, I like Christopher. Is he actually going to get his chance with Lorelai this time around?— Libby
Ausiello: Cover your eyes, L/L fans. (Yes, he is.) David Sutcliffe was very cagey about the rekindling of Lorelai-Christopher, but I did manage to get him to confirm rumors that they'll be jetting off to Paris for a romantic rendezvous during November sweeps. But, unfortunately for Sutcliffe, they won't be going to the real Paris. He says there was a "30-second conversation" about doing a location shoot in France, but saner (i.e., budget-conscious) minds prevailed, and now "Paris is on the backlot of Universal." BTW, Sutcliffe's no dummy: He knows the majority of Gilmore fans loathe his character. "It's a 70/30 split," he ventures. "I do have my fans, but I have my detractors as well."
Ahhh! I'm going to be so sad watching the premiere.

Gilmores and Elephants
For any of my readers who are fans of Gilmore Girls (I was going to say "obsessed," but I think that only applies to me), you might be interested in reading this article which has lots of juicy tidbits about the first episode of the 7th season! Reading it made me feel better about the fact that the Palladinos, the masterminds behind the show, are no longer with the show. So read, enjoy, and leave me eprops of gratitude. (Also, there's an interview with David Rosenthal, the new executive producer, here.)
For those of you who couldn't care less about Gilmore Girls (and I don't want to hear about it if you're one of them), enjoy this amazing tale about a very special elephant.
Incredible story about an elephant's memory
UPI July 20, 2006
A young man was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from college. While he was walking through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air.
The elephant seemed distressed so the man approached it very carefully. He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot. There was a large thorn deeply embedded in the bottom of the foot.
As carefully and as gently as he could he worked the thorn out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot. The elephant turned to face the man and with a rather stern look on its face, stared at him. For a good ten minutes the man
stood frozen -- thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned and walked away.
The man never forgot that elephant or the events of that day. Twenty years later the man was walking through the zoo with his teenaged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to where they are standing at
the rail. The large bull elephant stared at him and lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times, all the while staring at the man. The man couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant. After a while, it trumpeted loudly; then it continued to stare at him.
The man summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder.
Suddenly the elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of the man's legs and swung him wildly back and forth along the railing, killing him.
Probably wasn't the same elephant.

Effects of an All-Nighter
EDIT: Chris is gone?! CHRIS? Are you kidding me?! I have no more words.
I slept a total of 13 hours last night. That's insane, but boy did it feel good. I think I could take a nap. Yesterday in my sleep-deprived state I forgot to remove my jump drive from the computer I was working on, and I didn't even realize it until I got a phone call an hour ago telling me it had been found. Thank goodness someone else is on top of things!
Thanks to all of you who expressed your happiness for me! I truly appreciate it.

The One Before the Finale
This week on Gilmore:
Lorelai avoids Luke like the plague, he's still clueless, and she's all depressed and convinced they're never getting married (and I'm starting to believe that more and more every episode).
Rory and Logan are nauseatingly cute as she helps him leave the hospital to go home and recover from his many injuries. Too bad he's going to London. Or is he?? (That's just my speculation. I think they might pull a "Oh, he's gone, how sad" but "Oh wait, he didn't get on the plane!" kind of thing. But that seems a little too Friends, I suppose.)
Jackson finds out that there is marijuana growing in the "back half-acre" of his land, planted by some former employees. Best line: "I told them to weed the back half-acre, and they're not the smartest of fellows." So he and Sookie are freaking out because they could be arrested, and it's very hilarious, if not completely random. They end up shoving all of it in garbage bags (after Jackson shoots down Sookie's idea of making "special brownies" with it) and sneaking it around the town square at night, and it's really hilarious because they run into the minister and the rabbi, who are out for a stroll to talk about God, and this convinces them they're going to hell.
The troubador appears from out of the woodwork for the obligatory time-wasting scene. What makes it more absurd is that he's playing in the rain.
Liz returns from the Renaissance fair all giddy because her jewelry is selling like hot cakes, and plus, she's pregnant! She's excited, he's excited, and then she says that TJ left, and Luke freaks out while Liz says she's perfectly calm because of her new "take it as it comes" philosophy. Luke is understandably baffled, and you can see him imagining the ways he's going to pulverize TJ.
Doyle and Paris watch Logan convalesce while Rory is out, and they give an enthusiastic review of "the penguin movie" (which I also recommend), and Logan calls Rory and tells her they must leave. While on the phone, one of the peons at the paper shows Rory an article about Logan's dad, in which he mentions Rory as one of his "success stories," and Rory is all indignant about how it seems like she is just another feather in Mitchum's hat. I think she completely overreacts about this, since it was like ONE SENTENCE, but whatever. She rants to Logan, who tells her (wisely) to get over it, but she can't so she calls the writer of the article and asks for a correction. The writer tells her she can't print a correction to an "impression," and so she finally gives up.
Luke finds TJ at a bar and confronts him for leaving Liz and the baby. He's like, "Uh, dude, she kicked me out." Luke's like, "What?" Turns out Liz got mad at him, told him he wouldn't be a good father, that he would mess the kid up, etc. etc., and then Luke realizes what's going on. He tells TJ that Liz is really worried about what kind of mother she'll be but she's taking it out on TJ. He says sometimes women say one thing, but are thinking something else entirely. It's the man's job to figure out what she really means. Really, Luke? Can you see that big fat plank in your eye? Wake up and smell the dysfunction!
Emily calls Lorelai in a panic because her Lasik eye surgery went "bad" and now she's temporarily blinded and needs supervision. So Lorelai goes over and ends up having to run her around town, which includes a stop at the realtor's office. Lorelai can't comprehend why in the world Emily would need to stop at a realtor's office, even though I'm pretty sure everyone else has guessed by now that she's buying Lorelai a house for her and Luke to live in. Lorelai looks at all of the pictures, and it's a beautiful house, and Emily gives this lovely speech about how she and Luke need a bigger place for when they have children, and she knew she wanted something near Stars Hollow, and this place is only an extra ten minutes drive to the inn and five to Luke's diner. It's so sweet and touching, and then Lorelai starts crying and says the wedding is never going to happen, and then we see Emily feeling her way over to Lorelai and placing her hand on her shoulder as she cries. That's about when I started crying. Those two women are top-notch actresses.
Later that night Lorelai goes over to Sookie and Jackson's because she's avoiding Luke, and she comes in and sits down dejectedly. Then she asks, "What's that smell?" and Sookie replies, "68 pounds of pot." Lorelai says, "Huh," and roll credits.
So sad! Luke and Lorelai are never going to get married. I just may have to quit watching! (Or not.)
P.S. Has anyone seen Bee Season? It's the most confusing movie ever. The whole time we were watching it, Liz and I kept saying, "What?!"
Gilmore Gaps
I missed the first 20 minutes of Gilmore Girls! Anyone want to fill in the gaps for me?
This was a good episode in my opinion. I have never felt so sorry for Lorelai as I did during that speech. I only wish Luke had been there to see what he's doing to her, and I hope that she talks to him about all of this next week. Why in the world didn't Christopher and Rory take her off the stage earlier than they did? I also really liked Christopher in this episode, which is a new feeling for me. At this point, I'd almost rather Lorelai ended up with him!
The most exciting part for me was when Brian and Kyon kissed! A friend and I totally called that relationship happening back in season 5, so I'm so glad they are making some progress!
I have so much work to do, and I don't want to do any of it. I need to get a job I can leave at 5. Except that's not really the solution, is it?

Fame! I'm gonna live forever!
Some of you may recall a post from November in which I shared with you my exciting debut on the World Wide Web. Well, I still ask Michael Ausiello questions every now and then, to see if I get in his column again, and this week I did it! Here's the blurb:
Question: Please tell me I am having a nightmare about the upcoming Gilmore Girls season finale. Why would ******* ***** **** ***********? — Erin
Ausiello: Oh, that spoiler information. Well, all I have to say about that is this: ***** and *** don't necessarily mean the same thing. But if they do happen to mean the same in this instance, well, be afraid, Erin. Be very afraid.
The asterisks are concealing the "meat" of my question, which concerns a spoiler I heard that has me quite up in arms (he inserted the asterisks, but I kept them so as not to ruin the surprise for those who choose to remain unspoiled). In fact, if things play out like I've heard they're going to, I may have to quit watching Gilmore Girls. Yes, you heard me right. I just hope that for once the spoilers are wrong.

Happy Spring!
Today is the first day of spring. It's sleeting here. Go figure. And now, a haiku:
Spring has come today.
The flowers are not in bloom.
Watch out for the ice.
EDIT: Another haiku because the library is a depressing place:
Alone we sit here
Taking in the books' stale air,
Wanting to be done.
I'm glad that Diana, my study buddy, is here or otherwise I'd be completely miserable. I've seen a total of 5 people since I've been here, and 2 of those were in the campus store where I bought my Diet Pepsi. But we press on, motivating ourselves with the promise of About a Boy and Walk the Line after our day's labor is through.
P.S. I did like Grey's Anatomy, even though I kind of had no idea what was going on. George is completely adorable, Alex is a jerk, and blonde girl in love with the patient made me cry. (I forget her name?)

Idols and Gum Sculptures
Aww, I'm so sad that Gedeon was eliminated! (Thanks for the info, Stef!) He was way better than some of the other guys, he's a Memphian, and he's just so smiley. What's not to love? And apparently one of my friends has his brother in her composition class, so it's like I'm 3 degrees from Gedeon.
If Mandisa doesn't become the next Idol, I'm never watching the show again. (And I say that every year I think, and yet here I am watching it again. Oh well.)
Ellen has the most random guests on her show. She just showed this clip of an elementary school teacher who can kick himself in the head with his foot. The guy demonstrated that, and then he proceeded to crush a can on his forehead, pop a balloon, and crack an egg, all with his foot. Then she had this guy who is a "gum sculptor," and he "sculpted" a little dolphin and then a turtle using his mouth. I have a few questions about these people. First, how in the world do you discover that you can do something like sculpt things with your mouth? And two, how can I learn something like that and get on national TV?
I'm teaching later today. We're talking about artistic depictions of religious deities, and I'm going to talk about my experience in Thailand and show them pictures of the Buddhist temples and shrines I visited. Should be fun.

Gilmore Gab
It's that time of the week, folks: Gilmore Girls recap! So, as briefly as possible, here are this week's main events:
Lorelai and Christopher attend this journalism panel that Rory is apart of, and while there Lorelai offers to help Christopher with Gigi because he's having trouble keeping nannies. Why Lorelai didn't think to wonder why nannies don't stay around is beyond me. Also in this scene: the world's most forced laughter from a group of people.
Lane decides to advertise for a band because she misses playing, and Zach sees her flier, tears it down, and tracks down Brian and Gil to see if they want to get back together. Brian and Zack bond over some stupid video game, Zack makes nice, and the guys agree to reunite if Lane will come back. Zack promises to take care of Lane. Also in this scene: Gil performing this completely wacky version of "Hollaback Girl." It was awesome.
Rory attends Logan's sister's wedding and gets roped into hanging out with Honor and the bridesmaids before the ceremony. These girls are the most vapid, ridiculous girls ever, and while they're chatting it comes out that Logan "fooled around" with not one, not two, but THREE of the bridesmaids while he and Rory were broken up. (Oh, and girls, 1972 called, and it wants the hairstyles back.) Rory of course is completely flabbergasted and skips out on the wedding. When Logan finds her, he asks her what's up, and she confronts him about his "indiscretions." He acts all apologetic, saying she wasn't supposed to know about that (like that makes it better) and that it "meant nothing" and he was hurt and depressed and lonely and blah blah blah. I'm sorry, Logan, but in the real world, sleeping with people is not a cure for loneliness or depression. He also says they were broken up at the time, but Rory says that she thought they were "on a break" (yes, they did make that tired Friends reference), since typically when a couple breaks up both parties know about it. Despite Logan's insisting that he loves Rory, Rory's having none of it and leaves, telling him she's moving out.
Lorelai ends up watching Gigi, who has aged more than I think she should have since we last saw her, and she's a little hellion. She wrecks Lorelai's house, screams at the top of her lungs, and basically acts like a "feral hyena." (That was Lorelai's phrase, I believe.) When Christopher comes to get her, Lorelai tries to tell him that he needs to discipline her more. He flies completely off the handle, saying that she's just a little feisty and that how he raises his daughter is none of her business (except you continually make it her business Chris, by always going to her for help the minute you can't handle things), and the whole argument basically ends with him storming out in a rage. For the last time, Chris, GROW UP.
Zack shows up at Luke's during Lane's shift and asks to talk to her. He then launches into this completely adorable speech about how he "doesn't feel good" at all since they broke up, and then I almost fall off the sofa when he asks Lane to marry him. She's all like, "What?" (as is the rest of the viewing audience), but he says he's thought about this, and he even has a ring that he got from a pawn shop. He says he knows it's not what she deserves, but it's all he could afford, and it's sweet. Lane says yes, they hug, and the whole diner applauds. Aww.
After leaving Honor's wedding, Rory ends up at a bar drowning her sorrows with alcohol. (Also not the cure for loneliness or depression.) While there, she runs into Doyle, who has been kicked out of the apartment by Paris, who has completely gone off the deep end. The two bond over how "love hurts" and they have an awkward moment where a drunken Doyle tries to kiss Rory. Rory puts a quick end to that, and retreats to the only place she knows to go: Paris' apartment. The two experience a sweet reconciliation, bond over how "boys suck," and Paris offers to let Rory move in.
Thoughts: First, Logan's a jerk. But it's not as though Rory hasn't had her share of "indiscretions." (Anyone remember Dean?) And I have a feeling that we haven't seen the end of Rory and Logan, although I wonder what in the world Logan's going to do to get her back. He pretty much exhausted his "forgive me" tactics with their last breakup.
Second, I can't wait to see how Mrs. Kim responds to the engagement. She's been a lot more mellow recently, but I can't believe she'll be all hunky-dory with Lane marrying Zack. But wouldn't it just be like the writers to have Zack and Lane get married at the end of this season instead of Luke and Lorelai, the couple we've been waiting to see married for SIX SEASONS? (I wonder: would we perhaps see a Mr. Kim if Lane were to get married? Or at least find out why we never see him?)
I don't like how Lorelai and Christopher have been thrown together so much recently, especially since things with Luke and Lorelai are so strained. I understand Lorelai's willingness to help out with Gigi, since she's successfully raised a daughter on her own. Furthermore, Luke's unwillingness to include Lorelai in April's life no doubt makes her feel useless, so helping Christopher with Gigi will help her feel needed, which I think is really important to Lorelai. Luke better wake up and get a clue soon, or I'm going to have to break up with him. I'll do it, too!
That's all for now! Have a great weekend, friends! I'm going on a little road trip tomorrow, so I'll see you Sunday.

Tube Talk
I'll post my thoughts on Gilmore Girls later after I allow the episode to "sit" a little. But I will say this: I totally didn't see the whole Zach/Lane engagement coming! Of course, that could be because they haven't even been communicating since the big fight and breakup. But Zach's little "I don't feel good" speech was completely adorable.
The new season of Amazing Race is on right now, and I am definitely rooting for the "nerds." I cracked up during their interview near the beginning when he said, "She's good at card games, and I'm good at taking tests." Um, and these skills will help you on The Amazing Race how? You have watched the show, right? Still, they're so unabashedly nerdy that I can't help but love them, even though the odds of their winning are as good as the odds of my ending up on The Amazing Race. (Not that I wouldn't love to be on it, but I wouldn't last more than one episode.) The "Glamazon" women are getting on my nerves, and if they scream much more I'm going to reach through the TV and yank out their vocal cords. The hippie dudes kind of scare me, but I haven't made any other firm opinions about the contestants yet.
I'm 99% sure I'm going to be making that road trip from Seattle to Memphis this summer. I believe it was the wise Lynette who said that I won't look back on this year and think, "Man, I sure wish I'd taken that summer class and gotten a lame summer job." But I know I would regret not making this trip. It will definitely be one for the history books, I do believe. Plus, the only 500-level class being offered this summer is going to be full term, which means it's meeting from June 5-Aug. 10. Ew. No thank you!

Default Rejection
I was just on facebook because I'm spending yet another looong day in the Writing Center with no writers to help, and there was an ad for a Knoxville rejection phone number. Apparently, if someone asks you for your number and you don't want him/her to have it, you give them this number instead. It basically does the rejection for you. It's funny in a way, but I know that if I ever got that number, I would be completely depressed. Are we such cowards as a society that we can't even tell someone we're not interested in him/her?
No Gilmore Girls tonight. Booo. They're showing Final Destination 2 instead. Could there be a dumber movie for them to show? I don't know of anyone who's just dying (haha, get it?) to see that movie instead of a fabulous show like GG. But I'm pumped because I'm going to watch some of the British version of The Office with my friend Diana instead. Good times. If you haven't seen the British version, you're really missing out. It's stinkin' hilarious.
P.S. The book I'm reading is hilarious. I'll be sure to post some great excerpts from it later.

Thoughts on Gilmore Girls
Luke is being a big fat buffoon. His behavior at the Vineyard was completely uncalled for. I realize he's often portrayed as surly, and it can be part of his charm, but he didn't have to complain about everything. And then the way he lied to Lorelai about how Logan was acting really made me lose respect for him. Since when does Luke slander others? Not to mention that after Logan saved his butt by giving him a present to give Lorelai, he was all about making nice. And let Lorelai hang out with you and April. Do you want her to be a part of your little ready-made family or not? Grow up, flannel boy! (I hate that the writers are making me hate Luke! I used to love him. I wanted to have his babies, for crying out loud! Well, not really, but you know what I mean.)
I really felt bad for Logan when his dad came bursting in and started laying into him about shirking his family responsibilities. It's clear Logan wants to make his own path, but his dad will have none of it, and I know that Lorelai definitely can relate to that. I wish they could have had more of a discussion when they were waiting for Rory to come down, but I think that perhaps we'll see more Logan/Lorelai bonding in future episodes.
As predicted, Lorelai's not telling Emily the wedding is not happening on June 3rd completely backfired. Leave it to Emily to put an announcement in the paper about the wedding. And leave it to Emily to call Luke a "restaurateur." Just another subtle way she's showing her disapproval of Luke and his lifestyle. And heaven forbid there actually be peace between the elder and younger Gilmores for more than two episodes! Of course this is going to cause Lorelai to fight with her mom, and Luke is sure to find out, so they'll probably fight as well, not that things with them are peachy keen anyway.
No new episode next week. Grr. Is it too much to ask to have more than two episodes shown consecutively? Is this or is this not February sweeps?? And do I or do I not need to get a life? (Don't answer that.)
More thoughts may come later, but right now I have to run. Peace out, my homies! (Haha, it's been a while since I pulled out the ghetto lingo, eh, Daniel?)

On Love and Gilmores
IT'S SNOWING! In Memphis! And I'm talking serious snowage, not just a few wimpy flurries. I think there's probably 2 inches on the ground already. I must have brought snow with me from Knoxville!
Now, on to GG. This week, the Yale Daily News staff finally mutinied and dumped Paris overboard. Rory breaks the news to her as gently as possible, and then Paris goes out and gives this dramatic resignation speech. Classic Paris. So naturally, as I predicted, Rory becomes the new editor and all is hunky dory, until Rory arrives at her apartment to find all of her belongings in the hallway. An angry, betrayed Paris tells Rory she is no longer welcome at Hotel Gellar (my phrasing, not hers) and that she can't believe Rory would stab her in the back like she did (or didn't, Little Miss Paranoid). Paris needs to take a serious chill pill. And really, the girl is pre-med, so why has she been focusing so much on the paper anyway? A panicked Rory tries to find other available apartments, but conveniently enough, there aren't any, so Logan asks her to move in with him. He says it will be "fun." Oh Logan, you're so clueless. And Rory agrees, leaving me with a feeling of deep apprehension.
Over at the elder Gilmores, Emily and Richard gang up on Lorelai and convince her to bring Luke to dinner next Friday, since he's going to be a part of the family. When Emily pressures her about a date for the wedding, Lorelai, feeling pigeonholed, tells her it's still June 3. Lorelai, Lorelai. Haven't you figured out by now that lying to Emily always backfires? Or that lying in general always backfires? So Luke and Lorelai attend the next Friday night dinner, and Richard launches into this comical and slightly bizarre tirade about how the two of them need to make sure their insurance policies are updated. Richard also suggests that Luke get more confirmation that April really is his daughter, and after that I'm wondering if my original premonition is right and April will turn out not to be Luke's daughter, after they've put Luke and Lorelai (and the faithful, but increasingly impatient fans) through all of this drama. Anywho, Luke and Lorelai are momentarily blindsided by the combined powers of Richard and Emily and leave the dinner waxing psychotic about their insurance, when Lorelai suddenly snaps out if, telling Luke he's "been Gilmored." Ha. So true. But Lorelai then points out that in spite of their crazy ramblings, Emily and Richard's behavior indicates that they consider Luke and Lorelai's relationship to be for real, and that their concern over the insurance in some way is a validation of their relationship. Interesting theory. And I hope she's right because Emily's snobbery toward Luke is digusting.
In an annoying turn of events, Lorelai asks Rory if she's heard from Christopher lately and then is all miffed when it turns out Christopher (for once) has been leaving them alone. Lorelai suggests that Rory give Chris a tour of Yale, since he's paying for it and all, and Rory agrees. The way Lorelai kept talking about Chris and her facial expressions are making me nervous. The Palladinos better not play the Chris card again. That game needs to be OVER.
Rory ends up giving Chris a tour of Yale, and he asks to see her apartment. Rory hedges a bit, reluctant to share her new living arrangements, but Chris is so insistent that she show him that she takes him to her new place. When they arrive at the (very nice) front door, Rory hurriedly fills him on the events that transpired to put her in Logan's apartment, and Chris tries to act nonchalant. Rory asks him not to tell Lorelai because she's planning on doing so later tonight, and Chris promises. Logan and Chris then bond over their respective bad boy pasts and their disposable incomes, and I throw up a little in my mouth. (Can you tell I'm neither a fan of Chris nor Logan?) After the three of them go out to dinner, Chris apparently was struck with amnesia because he immediately calls up Lorelai and rats out Rory, disregarding the promise he'd made earlier. Um, what? He didn't even give the girl a chance to tell Lorelai! Why does he have to be such a brat?! Lorelai is obviously surprised by the news, but she promises Chris not to act like she knows. Rory beeps in while Lorelai and Chris are talking (see, Chris, she was going to tell her!) and Lorelai feigns surprise. She then tells Rory to let her know what it's like "living with a boy," which confuses me a little because correct me if I'm wrong, but Luke sleeps over like every night! Just because all of his stuff isn't there doesn't mean he's not a real presence in the house. Come on, Lorelai, get real.
So that was this week's episode. It was pretty good, but nothing incredibly spectacular. I'm curious to see what's going on with Lane, since she hasn't been around in a while. I also hope that this Christopher thing ends up being nothing. Predictions for the next few episodes: things with Luke and Lorelai will become tense because Luke's going to find out she hasn't canceled all the wedding plans, Emily will find out the wedding is postponed and be angry, Logan and Rory will see that living together isn't all peaches and cream, and April will turn out not to be Luke's daughter. I'm probably wrong about all of these, but oh well. There's my two cents!
Now that I've probably lost all of you halfway through this rambling post, I'll end it now. Happy Friday!

This week on Gilmore Girls...
EDIT: My grandmother's having surgery right now. She's been in the hospital all week, and they are operating on her colon. Please pray that she comes through it with no complications. She's 80, so there's always a slight danger in surgery for someone that age. Thanks for your prayers!
Beth gets the prize for knowing numbers 30 and 31 on that quiz. I never in a million trillion years would have guessed that 9 P in SA= 9 provinces in South Africa! So go give Beth some love!
Now that I've had a very refreshing 3-hour nap, I can talk about Gilmore Girls! (The nap was supposed to be 30 minutes, but it somehow ended up a little longer. Hee.) Here's a recap of last night's events, and then I will offer up some opinions. Not that anyone cares about my opinion; I just love to see my words in print. (Obviously, or I wouldn't even have a xanga.) So, last night on Gilmore Girls:
Things with Luke and Lorelai are strained, both because Luke is a clueless moron who can't see that Lorelai isn't happy with the wedding postponement, and Lorelai is being the epitome of passive aggressive and pulling the "No really, I'm fine, don't worry about little ole me" routine while looking all sad and bereft. If there's one thing I've learned from this fictitious but highly addictive show, it's that communication is key to a successful, healthy relationship. These two could avoid so many problems if they would just talk to each other! Lorelai needs to quit thinking that Luke can read her mind, and Luke needs to be more attentive to Lorelai's feelings, especially after he just called off the wedding. Anywho, Lorelai meets Sookie at a flower mart where they were planning to get ideas for the wedding, and she awkwardly tells her it's postponed. Sookie, having been invaded by a completely self-absorbed pod person, replies with an insensitive, "What did you do?" Lorelai tells her about Luke and April, Sookie then wonders if Jackson might have a "love child," and I lose more than a little respect for Sookie. Later, we see scenes of Luke and April in the diner and Lorelai next door at Taylor's "world of cheesiness" spying on them along with half of Stars Hollow. Luke is pretty much shutting Lorelai out of his relationship with April and doesn't even realize the effect it's having on Lorelai.
At Yale, Paris has become a power-crazed dictator, and Rory begins to realize the extent of this problem when an issue of the paper comes out with a blank photo slot that says "Photo to be approved by Paris." Ha! Rory confronts Paris, telling her she has to get it together, but Paris lives in another world where everything is peachy and so does nothing. Meanwhile, Logan has been stalking Rory at the coffee cart, trying to get her to go out to dinner with him like she agreed to, and she finally relents (as we all knew she would but hoped she wouldn't). They agree to have dinner that Thursday, but when Thursday rolls around, Rory comes to the paper to find that most of the staff has quit in protest. She flips into panic mode, and starts trying to round up the people she can. Logan then comes in to find her running around, and he expresses his surprise that she didn't call him. Really, Logan? You were surprised? Even though you've spent all of two minutes in the newsroom? Huh. So anyway, Logan and Rory make an excellent team, and thanks to the staff's hard work and Logan's name dropping, they manage to get the paper out, no thanks to Paris, who is totally going to be impeached next week and replaced by Rory as editor. Mark my words. After the hullabaloo subsides, Logan pulls out a dinner for them to share, and I guess they're back together. Yay.
Now onto the main event: dinner with the grandparents after probably the longest Friday night dinner hiatus ever. Emily and Richard found out that Chris paid for Yale after their check was returned and Lorelai told them it wasn't a mistake, so needless to say things are tense. Rory is very resistant to even going to dinner or talking to them, despite the fact that she mooched off them for months and then left with no warning or a thank you. Rory's a brat. Lorelai convinces her to go, telling her that the grandparents want her there, but when the two arrive, it's clear that they're not welcome. It's not long before things erupt, with everyone wanting to leave, but Lorelai demands that everyone stay and work things out instead of leaving. I loved that Lorelai stepped up to the plate in this scene, but what I want to know is, why couldn't she take that same aggressive, open approach with Luke? Sheesh. So what follows is this very unique montage in which handheld cameras are used and the scenes switch from the characters yelling about Rory leaving the grandparents to Emily's confrontation with Shira Huntzberger to Lorelai getting pregnant with Rory at 16 (as if we haven't heard that before). It was a really bizarre sequence for GG, but I absolutely loved it; I thought it was an effective way of getting everything out on the table, and it reinstated Friday night dinners, which had to come back into play because the show just isn't the same without the relationship with the grandparents. It was a really fabulous 10 minutes of television, I have to say.
Here are some thoughts:
Lorelai held off on canceling all of the wedding plans just yet, in the hopes that Luke would wake up from his stupid coma and un-postpone things, but I have a feeling that he's going to discover this and it could lead to more problems. What I'm hoping will happen is that the plans will all be canceled, and then they'll get married at the end of the season under the chuppa like they should.
Paris' little office space reminded me of that eerie scene from A Beautiful Mind where John Nash has all of those newspaper clippings covering the walls. She's clearly losing it, and I just want to know where exactly the writers are going with her character. She used to be multi-dimensional and complex, but now she's just borderline psychotic. And where's Doyle? Shouldn't Paris have called him?
Sookie also seems to be turning into a caricature of herself, acting completely kooky and not like the sensitive, caring friend she usually is. What friend, after hearing about her friend's postponement, responds with, "What did you do?" How insensitive is that? Sure, Lorelai's had a rocky past when it comes to relationships, but friends don't automatically assume the worst like that. If anything, Sookie would have responded with, "What did Luke do?" That's the typical female response: blaming the guy. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying it's more realistic.
I liked Logan this week. Darn it. And the previews make it look like something huge is going to happen with him and Rory, but I bet they just want us to think that they're getting engaged or Rory is pregnant or something, when it will end up being no big deal.
I loved the Friday night scene where Lorelai reenacts the scene from "A House is Not a Home" and impersonates Emily and Richard's voices. It's classic. She is so overdue for an Emmy it's not even funny. Give the girl an Emmy already!
What happened to the job Rory got at the Stanford Gazette? Was all of her obnoxious harassment for nothing? They just completely dropped that whole story line. Not as if that's anything new, unfortunately.
Well, I've written another long entry no one will probably read, but it sure was fun! Happy weekend, dear readers! One of my best friends, Sarah, is coming to visit this weekend, so updates will probably be scarce. I'm sure you'll manage to go on with your normal lives, though.
